LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A young man is dead after being shot Sunday evening and his half-brother is now in custody.

Lexington police were called out to the 2500 block of Cashel Court at 6:30 Sunday night for a report of victim with a gunshot wound. Police say that one person was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries. The Fayette County Coroner confirms that person was 16-year-old Ezavion Lindsey.

Eric Lamont Trigg, 18, was arrested and charged with reckless homicide in connection with the shooting. Family members say the victim was Trigg’s half-brother, Ezavion Lindsey, 16. They say Lindsey was going to be a senior at Tate's Creek High School in the fall. Family members tell WKYT both boys were inseparable growing up.

"I want people to know that I love both of them. They were both great grand-kids. They loved each other. There was never a fuss or argument between them," says Elizabeth Croley, boys' grandmother.

The incident is still under investigation but police say there were multiple people inside the home at the time of the shooting and they are interviewing witnesses to try to figure out what happened.

The grandmother says Eric Trigg Jr. was planning to head off to a college in Indiana in less than a month to play basketball.

Trigg pleaded not guilty in his arraignment Monday afternoon. His bond is still set at $7,500. He told a judge he would need a public defender.
