Shooting injures one man and sends another to jail

KNOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - One person is dead and another in jail after a shooting.

It happened off Highway 550 in the Mousie community of Knott County.

Police say Travis Scott, 24, was walking through a yard owned by Hillard Smith. We're told when Smith saw Scott on his property, he confronted him with a handgun.

Police say Smith shot Scott in the stomach after a brief conversation.

Scott was taken to UK hospital for his injuries.

Smith was arrested and charged with assault.
