Shooting victim saves lives by donating organs

HAZARD, Ky. (WKYT) -- We've learned a 12 year old, killed in a shooting on a college campus left some gifts behind that saved other lives.

Taylor Cornett, along with her father, Jackie Cornett and another family member Caitlin Cornett were shot last Tuesday in a parking lot at Hazard Community and Technical College.

Wednesday, Melissa Cornett who is Taylor's mother and Jackie's husband talked to us.

She says Taylor was an organ donor. Her organs were given to other people who needed them.

"It is such a comfort to me, to know that part of her is still living on in someone else giving them a better quality of life," said Melissa Cornett.

Kentuckians who want to become organ donors can now have their wishes known with a special new symbol on their licenses or ID cards.

You can sign up to be an organ donor when you renew your driver's license.
