Shoppers crowd Lexington stores as Black Friday begins

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Some people waited days for it, even camping outside stores.

Now, they're able to go after those deals.

Black Friday got underway on Thanksgiving night in Lexington.

Some stores opened between 8 and 10 p.m., while others were opening at midnight. Toys 'R' Us opened Thursday night, as employees let 50 shoppers in at a time.

Shoppers told us they came with a game plan.

"Go down through the aisles. And find out what they have. And figure out where I'm going," shopper Amber Payne said.

"I've actually got a friend. We split it. She's getting my Walmart stuff and I got her big item that she wanted for her son," shopper Amy Johnson said.

Kelly Rowe is a first-time Black Friday shopper. This year, the mother of three went from one extreme to the other.

"The past two years I've been here on Christmas Eve. So my choices have been limited," Rowe said.

Some shoppers at Toys 'R' Us told WKYT they waited more than two hours to step foot inside the store.

Walmart and Sears opened at 8 p.m. Thursday, along with Toys 'R' Us.

Target opened at 9 p.m. Best Buy, Macy's, Kohl's, and Fayette Mall began Black Friday sales at midnight. JCPenney opens at 6 a.m. Friday, and Dillards will open at 8 a.m.
