Side roads hazardous;frigid conditions in Pulaski County

Updated: Fri 7:20 PM, Jan 13, 2012

Big, fluffy flakes fell off and and on all morning and by looking at some roads, getting around was somewhat of a challenge Friday morning in Pulaski County.

Main roads like US Hwy 27 posed few problems. But some hills like Norwood Rd. north of Somerset gave drivers some issues. Roads like that one and on Wayne St. in Science Hill is why schools were closed in the region. People say they are making the most of it and despite the conditions, they still have a job to do.

“And I live in Casey County, so I'm coming from another county over, which is a lot of hills and stuff. But we leave a little early, despite the weather turning bad on us,” said Ursula Moore, an employee at D & D Food Mart in Science Hill.

The slick back roads didn’t keep many people at home.

“They aren’t that bad, side roads aren't that bad. Main roads are awfully clean. They're doing a good job cleaning the roads,” said driver David Naylor.

Bad weather or not, Chris Phillips of Phillips Tree Service says the job has to be done.

“Limbs are frozen, they break instead of giving. A lot of times you have to be cautious that it doesn’t hit a house,” said Phillips.

Cold weather sometimes means the job takes longer..but the day can also be shorter.

“If it gets too cold…we go home,” he said.

Police say they didn’t have have many calls Friday morning and only blamed one significant crash on the weather in the Antioch area.
