LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Lexington Fire Department is teaming up with Lowes in the hopes of collecting 1,000 smoke detectors!
Fire officials say thousands of lives are lost in house fires each year, due to the absence of smoke detectors. Their goal is to be able to offer families in Lexington better fire protection by installing smoke detectors inside homes throughout the community.
Smoke detectors can be donated at the South Lexington Lowes behind the Wal-Mart on Nichols Park Drive. Store hours are Monday thru Saturday from 6am-9pm and Sunday from 8am-8pm. The drive will run through July 26, 2014.
Every other Saturday starting February 8th from 10am-11am, Lowes will hold a build and Grow Kids’ Clinic. This clinic, held in conjunction with the Lexington Fire Department, is meant to help spread awareness to kids about the importance of fire safety.
At the conclusion of the drive Lowes will host a fire safety class. The Lexington Fire Department will bring their trucks out to teach kids about fire safety. The time and date for this event has not yet been scheduled.
