Snow comes to an end as sunshine struggles to return

Updated: Sat 8:52 AM, Mar 02, 2013

Today marks a somber anniversary of the deadly tornado outbreak that claimed two dozen lives across the Bluegrass state last March. This year, the weather couldn’t be more different.

While last year, highs were pushing 70 degrees, this year we will struggle to get out of the mid 30s for many places. Some lingering snow showers will carry us into the early afternoon hours and should come to an end by midday.

Tonight lows will once again dip below freezing with a light northwest wind and mostly cloudy skies.

Winter seems to be clinging to life, despite the fact that meteorological Spring began yesterday. Climatologically speaking, normal highs for this time of year are near 50 degrees.

Heading into the week, we’re tracking another possible snow maker by midweek, into Tuesday and Wednesday. There’s a good chance some Kentuckians could be left with a swath of accumulating snow after this storm.

Once it’s over, temperatures will finally begin to rebound by the end of the week, reaching the upper 40s again by Friday.
