Snow threat causes concern in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Road crews in Floyd County say they'll be read to go no matter how much snow falls there.

However, county leaders tell us they're also worried about power outages.

"We could see possibly anywhere from 6 to 12 inches of snow here in Floyd County. So that worries me," said R.D. "Doc" Marshal, Floyd County Judge-Executive.

"This is the first year I've ever come out and worked a snow storm before Halloween," Jerry Lowe, with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, told us.

Crews say they won't be caught off guard.

"This storm is a little early on us than the norm, so we've really been going at it all day to get ready for this," said Lowe.

"We don't want to get caught shorthanded, we have at least 20 of our men on standby. We've taken precautions and measures that we hope will take care of the needed problems. We have eight trucks on standby with blades and everything ready," said Marshall.

While the early snowfall is an issue, it's the damage that it will likely cause that has these crews bracing for the worst.

"With this snow comes and it's wet, with all the leaves that we have on the trees we could have some power outages without question. But I'm going to be optimistic, I'm going to stay positive because I really believe and am hoping that we're going to dodge a lesser bullet."

Marshall says this weather could delay Halloween for the kids. Instead of doing it on Wednesday night, he says they're going to wait and do it on Saturday.
