Some Republicans welcome Obama outreach; others wait to see if he's sincere

WASHINGTON (AP) - One Republican senator says President Barack Obama is "moving in the right direction" by reaching out to GOP lawmakers.

Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, one of the Republican senators who dined with Obama last week, tells NBC that he thinks Obama is "tremendously sincere" about trying to bridge differences over the budget and other issues.

But Republican congressman Paul Ryan, who was Mitt Romney's running mate last year, tells Fox News that it remains to be seen whether it's a "real, sincere outreach to find common ground." He says he had a "very good, frank exchange" during lunch with Obama at the White House last week.

Obama has scheduled three visits to Capitol Hill in the coming days to meet with Republican lawmakers.

Republican Congressman Cory Gardner of Colorado says he and his GOP colleagues are unlikely to become fast friends with Obama after four years of being vilified in private -- and, in some cases, in public. Gardner tells "Meet the Press" that he hopes Obama is "genuine" in the outreach effort. But he adds, "I don't think we're going to be doing the Harlem Shake any time soon together."
