RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) -

In the wake of the unsolved murders at ABC Gold, Games, & More in Danville, some central Kentucky pawn shop owners are expressing concerns.

Elvis Hyde, the owner of Wade's Pawn Shop in Richmond recognizes the dangers associated with his line of work.

"Yeah, it shocked me in a little town like Danville," says Hyde.

Hyde says he had the three unsolved murders on his mind when he came into work Monday, "I have some concerns about it for our safety here."

Hyde has surveillance cameras inside and outside of his business on East Main Street and each employee carries a gun.

"Just because of the crowd we deal with. With having cash in here. Because you hear of a lot of places getting robbed," adds Hyde.

Hyde says he did some business with 60-year-old, Daniel Smith, of Richmond, the customer who was shot and killed inside the ABC Gold,Games, & More shop.

Other pawn shops in Richmond were familiar with Smith too. They only had positive things to say about him.

Hyde believes what happened in Danville was an isolated incident, "We feel pretty safe. If it was every day, I'd probably quit a long time ago."

A customer inside of Wade's Pawn Shop tells WKYT she had some reservations about going to a pawn shop after what happened in Danville Friday.

We reached out to family of Daniel Smith. They asked for privacy during this difficult time. The Combs, Parsons, & Collins Funeral Home in Richmond is handling Smith's funeral arrangements.
