Updated: Thu 3:49 PM, Mar 07, 2013

SOMERSET, Ky. -- The beloved mascot of Somerset High School has been selected to represent Kentucky in Round 2 of USA Today's Best Mascot Contest, and the competition is jumpin'!

Cecil the Briar Jumper was selected out of five Kentucky high school mascots to go on to the "regional competition" of the Best Mascot Contest. He faces such competitors as the Silent Warrior of the Alabama School for the Deaf and the Key West Conchs.

Students at the independent school in Central Kentucky have rallied support for Cecil, and are hoping that their small school can leap all the way to the Nationals with the help of their fellow Kentuckians.

You can vote for the Somerset Briar Jumpers at the link provided below.

Somerset Briar Jumpers are in Region 3 and letter G. To vote, all you have to do is type in a 4 character code, given to you, then hit vote for this mascot. Voters can enter their votes as many times as they like.

Somerset High School was reportedly one of the first schools in Kentucky to have a football program.
