SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - Hours after the accident, a community kick-started itself into helping a 12 year old girl, that many didn’t even know.
“It has been a very overwhelming thing.. the amount of people that have wanted to help the family,” said Rev. Tony Hall, the minister of Barnesburg Baptist Church, where Jaden and her family attend.
A Facebook page called “Prayers for Jaden” has garnered more than 5,000 “likes.” Bank accounts are being set up and T-shirts are selling nearly as fast as they’re being made.
“Over $2,500 raised yesterday to help support the family there,” said Hall.
Jaden and her father, Jimmy Jasper, were hit by wooden planks when police believe their SUV may have hydroplaned on Pumphouse road and crashed through a fence last Tuesday.
“She has opened her right eye, she is responding by shaking her head yes and no, and she’s given a thumbs up and moving her fingers,” said Hall.
Jaden has a surgery scheduled for Friday, which could last 7 to 10 hours.
“They really at one point didn’t even know if she would make it to Lexington, when the plank came through the window,” said Hall.
She still has a long ways to go….but hundreds if not thousands are praying for her and in many ways, cheering her on.
“I think it’s a testament to her faith, so many rallying around her, and God working a miracle right before all of us,” said Hall.
Another benefit is set for this Friday night from 6 to 10 at Skater’s Paradise in Somerset. Half the admission price of $10 will go to Jaden and her family.
