Son worried for mother struck by lightning
Thursday night's severe storms left one family in a heartbreaking situation. Kathleen Friend, an attorney in Richmond, was working on her farm in Jessamine County when lightning hit her.
Friend's son Woodrow was with her when the storms came through on Thursday. He and his mother were laying water line pipes on their farm at the time. He says he saw a big flash of light, he dropped to the ground, and when he looked up he didn't see his mother. He tried preforming CPR, and he tells WKYT even before emergency crews arrived, he was pretty sure his mother was gone.
"She was very friendly. She's a hard worker, and she's put a lot of effort into her career and raising her children and her family. Those are kinda the two things that have been most important to her," says son Woodrow Friend.
Woodrow is one of Friend's three children. He says his mother is currently on life support at UK Hospital.
