LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - It will be at least a couple of weeks before Donald Southworth is returned to Lexington to face a judge.
On Thursday, the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned Southworth's murder conviction in the 2010 beating death of his wife, Umi, and ordered a new trial.
The department of corrections told WKYT today that they have to wait 20 days for the court's decision to become final and receive a request from the Fayette County courts before they return him.
A Fayette County jury convicted Donald Southworth back in 2012 of murder and he was sentenced to life in prison. This was after police discovered his wife, Umi, badly beaten behind their home here on Meadowthorpe Avenue.
