LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A new Louisville policy to regulate where donation bins can be located around the city has led to a federal lawsuit.
The Courier-Journal reports Special Olympics Kentucky claims in the lawsuit against Louisville Metro Council that it will no longer be able to continue a primary fundraiser - collecting used clothing - due to the ordinance, which takes effect in two weeks.
The council approved a regulation in December that stipulates where such bins can be placed and requiring bin owners to pay a $300 registration fee and a $200 renewal each year.
Trish Mazzoni, president of Special Olympics Kentucky, said the loss of revenue could lead to fewer or scaled-back programs.
Jefferson County Attorney Bill Patteson declined to comment since the litigation is pending.
