St. John school in Georgetown wins state recycling contest

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Scott County school was named one of the top recycling schools in the nation this week.

St. John Catholic School in Georgetown was one of more than a thousand schools nationwide to take part in the Great American Can Roundup.

St. John, with an enrollment of 175 students, was the top recycling school in the state of Kentucky.

Students collected cans from November through April.

The Can Manufactures Institute sponsored the recycling effort.

As a state winner, St. John will receive a thousand dollar check plus the value of the cans collected by the school.
