PINEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - A man is in the hospital and another taken to jail after a stabbing in Bell County.

Blood stained concrete was the only thing left of what police said was a brutal and bloody act.

“The best way to describe this scene was a violent act. The scene had a lot of blood involved in it,” said Kevin Goodin of the Pineville Police Department.

Carl Schackleford was arrested after he allegedly stabbed Terry Treece in the chest and then cut his throat.

Police said that after Treece's throat had been cut, he walked from the parking lot to the emergency room, where he received emergency surgery.

“Both carotid arteries had been severed he was cut from this muscle on this side of the neck all the way through this muscle on this side,” said Goodin.

Police said Shackleford used a box cutter knife in the assault.

The investigation is ongoing.

Shackleford was released from the Bell County Detention Center Saturday.
