State police resume search for missing Madison County teen

BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - The search is wrapping up, after hours of searching for missing Madison County teen, Brookelyn Farthing. Nearly 200 people searched 16,000 acres, sadly, finding no new clues.

The teenager has been missing since June 22. Police say she disappeared after a suspicious fire at a home in Berea. Troopers say the search area is close to where Farthing was last believed to be seen, which was around Dillon Court.

More than 200 volunteers with emergency operations from multiple counties have been searching the area since 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Troopers say those crews are searching a mile and a half radius around the area just off of Highway 21 for any signs of Farthing.

"The area that we're checking is an expansion of a previously searched area. This was the area where Brookelyn Farthing was last believed to have been at. So this is an area where we need to check," says Trooper Paul Blanton, KSP Public Affairs Officer.

Troopers say they aren't asking for the public's help with this search, but they are still asking property owners to search their own properties for any unusual signs, like freshly turned soil.

Crews here will be searching the area throughout the rest of the day.
