State police trooper struck by car on I-65

LEBANON JUNCTION, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky State Police trooper is recuperating in a Louisville hospital after he was struck by a motorist during a traffic stop on Interstate 65.

Trooper Sam Shacklette was walking to a car he had stopped for speeding on the interstate near the Bullitt County line on Saturday when he was hit.

State Police say a Ford SUV driven by 43-year-old Louis Edward Dunn hit the parked vehicle and Shacklette, throwing the officer about 50 feet. Shacklette was taken to University Of Louisville Hospital where he was in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries Saturday night. No one else was hurt.

Dunn was cited for failing to give right of way to an emergency stopped vehicle and operating on an expired license, no insurance
