MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The Madison County Emergency Operations Center in Richmond didn't get many damage reports Thursday night, but the gusty winds did cause some problems in the southern end of the county.
Ricky Conn had been working on his detached garage for about five years, but Thursday night was a setback for him. The storm blew through around 7:00 PM and a fifty-foot-long wall was no match for the wind gusts. It appeared the wind blew through the openings and pushed against the wall until it finally gave way, littering the yard with cinder blocks. Thankfully, the two ends of the wall were still strong enough to support the roof and all the debris blew outward into the yard, leaving everything inside untouched. Conn wasn't home at the time. Shortly after, a neighbor sent him a Facebook message asking what had happened to his garage, so he rushed home to see what had happened.
"I was just figuring some shingles or something on the roof had blown off. Never dreamed that it could tear the block down like it has," he said.
Conn said he had planned to put doors and a ceiling in the garage, but those will now have to wait as he repairs that wall.
