Strong winds knock trees, power lines down

Updated: Fri 11:57 PM, Jul 27, 2012

911 dispatchers in Cynthiana told WKYT they were flooded with phone calls about downed trees.

One tree on Battle Grove Avenue in Cynthiana brought power lines down with it.

"The wind started blowing. I walked out back to check on some stuff and I heard a big snap and all the electric went out in the house. So I run back around front and I seen there was a car underneath the tree," explains Ernie Covington, who lives on Battle Grove Avenue.

Covington told WKYT the tree snapped in the strong winds around 8 Friday evening, right before it started raining. When the tree came crashing down, it took a power line with it, and landed on top of someone's car. Covington says one man's daughter was seconds away from being crushed inside the car.

"I walked up as close as I could get and was kinda like looking under the tree. They said she had already got out and went up to the house."

At last check, crews were out trying to restore power to homes along Battle Grove.
