Students move into new dorms on UK's campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Students with the Class of 2018 are moving in to their new homes for the next school year. This dorm isn't just new to them, it's also new to campus.

"Our son Blake moved in today. First day at UK and it went very smoothly. They directed us right to where we needed to park our car. We unloaded on a table, parked our car, came back and then moved everything in these giant carts," explains Steve Hymer, a parent.

His wife, Janet Hymer, adds, "It's a lot better than when we went to school and had to do it all ourselves."

Students and parents covered UK's campus Wednesday morning, which could only mean one thing. It's move in day for many incoming freshmen. They spent the morning loading up carts with their belongings and hauling them up to their rooms.

For many students, this is the beginning of a new chapter. But this experience is also new to the university.

Central Hall I & II are brand new dorms on campus. They bring many luxuries that past students didn't have.

"Yeah, these dorms are really, really nice. Probably the best dorms ever. They are incredible. The beds are Tempur-Pedic, you have two sinks and the bathrooms are great. Yeah, I'm very excited to live here," says Henry Uradu, an incoming UK freshman.

Classes at UK will begin next Wednesday.
