Study: Distracted driving deaths underreported

WASHINGTON (AP) - A new report says crash deaths blamed in distracted driving are being seriously underreported.

A recent analysis of state and federal data by the National Safety Council found that even when drivers admitted to authorities that they were using a phone during an accident in which someone was killed, about half the cases were not recorded that way.

The study was paid for in part by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company.
