Stumbo blames violent video games for shootings

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - House Speaker Greg Stumbo has joined the chorus of people who are blaming violent video games for training shooters.

Stumbo said Friday that there's little the state Legislature can do about it, but he said Congress certainly can.

U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-West Virginia, has already introduced legislation that would direct the National Academy of Sciences to thoroughly investigate the impact of violent games on children's long-term well-being.

Rockefeller specifically wants it to study whether the interactive nature of the games and the vivid way violence is portrayed affect kids. The report would be due within 18 months.

Stumbo said during a press conference in Frankfort that he believes some of the gunmen who have committed atrocities in the U.S. have received their training via video games.
