LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -

Halloween may have been months ago, but if you head to downtown Lexington this weekend you'll likely see many people in costume.

"It's just a really fun place and an awesome atmosphere," says Maria Ramos, a costume model.

The event is called the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention. It is the second year for organizers to bring the event to town.

"They get to see their favorite comic book artist. They get to buy collectibles. People dress up in their favorite characters," adds Ramos.

Ramos is embracing her inner Black Cat for today's event, "So what I do is I hand-make my outfits. It takes me a really long time and I model my outfits. I try to be really creative and I try to bring the character to life pretty much."

It's an event that attracts people of all ages.

"We have people from just about any genre from Star Wars to Power Rangers to Pro Wrestling. Just about anything," says event organizer, Jarrod Greer.

The convention allows fans the chance to meet their favorites in person.

"We were here last year about this same time. There were about 4,000 people here and we're shaping up to be several more than that today it seems like," says Greer.

Organizers say it takes a year to plan the comic and toy convention. But, those involved say the hard work is well worth it.

"It's pretty much like you want to become that character. You love it so much that you just want to be it. So you put all of your time and effort trying be that person or character that you've always dreamed about when you were a little kid growing up watching the cartoon or reading a comic," says Ramos.

The Lexington Comic and Toy Convention continues on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It's held in Lexington Center's, Heritage Hall.
