Suspect arrested more than a year after Lexington kidnapping

Jose Ramirez

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man who police say kidnapped a woman is behind bars more than year after the crime.

32-year old Jose Ramirez is charged with kidnapping in Lexington. He was arrested on Tuesday night in Winchester.

Lexington Police say Ramirez and Juan Arredondo kidnapped a woman on May 28, 2011.

Court documents state that the victim asked the pair for a ride in the area of Winchester Road and 7th Street. According to the victim, that's when Arredondo grabbed her and dragged her into the van.
Police say that Ramirez drove while Arredondo raped the woman in the back of the van. The woman was able to jump from the moving vehicle along Royster Road and get help.

A search of the area with police dogs led them to a barn on Royster. Police found Arredondo hiding inside. He was arrested and charged with kidnapping and rape.
Police also found the abandoned van. The van was registered to Ramirez.

Police say the victim was also able to identify Ramirez in a photo line-up on June 3, 2011. A warrant was issued that day for his arrest.

On Tuesday night, police in Winchester served Ramirez with that warrant on Gambrel Avenue. He was arrested and taken to the Clark County Detention Center. He was then transported to the Fayette County Detention Center.

Ramirez is due in court on Wednesday afternoon to answer to the kidnapping charge in Lexington.
