Suspect being brought back to Kentucky

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- He says he was on a mission of mercy by trying to save a Bell County teen from what he thought was an abusive situation.

Tonight, a Connecticut man accused of taking a 14-year-old girl from her home is talking to us from jail.

David Hernandez is now back in Bell County, where he's charged with custodial interference and unlawful transaction with a minor.

Police say earlier this month he picked up Madison York, 14, and took her to his Connecticut home.

Hernandez says the girl had an online relationship with his teenage son the family thought she was 18 years old.

"It was stupid from my side of not asking of any proof of her age," said Hernandez.

Hernandez also said he's sorry for what happened. He's being held in jail on a one million dollar bond.
