SOMERSET, Ky. (WKYT) - We could learn more about the murder of a prominent southern Kentucky defense attorney on Wednesday. Clinton Inabnitt is accused of killing Mark Stanziano. The shooting happened outside Stanziano's Somerset law office. Inabnitt will be in court for a preliminary hearing. He's already pleaded not guilty in the case.
During a preliminary hearing, police lay out the charges against the suspect and the judge determines if there is enough evidence to send the case to the grand jury for indictment. In this case, police say a sheriff's detective witnessed the shooting. They say Inabnitt fired off at least seven rounds. Stanziano died about an hour later at the Somerset hospital.
We have learned a little more about Inabnitt. He has been charged with various crimes over the years but his mental state has come into question many times by police, attorneys and others who know him. Inabnitt is represented by the Department of Public Advocacy, but to avoid a conflict of interest an attorney from outside Pulaski County was brought in to represent him.
