WINCHESTER, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have identified the person they say stabbed a woman in a violent attack.

WKYT was the first to confirm Winchester police have charged Nancy Spencer, 50, with robbery, assault and unlawful imprisonment.

Police arrested Spencer after neighbors say she stabbed Susan Kemplin Wednesday on Dale Drive.

"I noticed that her face was swollen," explains neighbor Shannon Watts. "She was bruised up, she had a cut from her cheek to her neck, a slice on her upper lip, she had four or five stab wounds in her back."

Watts was home when Kemplin came knocking at her door for help. "I opened the door and saw her there, she was distraught. I couldn't believe what had happened to her."

Kemplin told police she ran for help after she managed to escape from Spencer. "She had cuts in her hair, blood was dried up in her hair, she had a hat on to try and cover it. I could tell it was bad and that I needed to call 9-11 immediately," explains Watts.

Kemplin was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

Spencer is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Clark County.
