Suspected Lexington social club shooter surrenders to police

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - After more than a week on the run, Lexington Police say a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend multiple times has turned himself in.

Police say Wendell Dixon shot the woman at the Swahili Elks Lodge on Versailles Road on August 9. One other person was grazed by a bullet during the shooting.

Dixon has been charged with first degree assault, possession of a handgun by a felon, and violating a protective order. Friends of the victim say she had taken that order out against Dixon.

Police say dozens of people witnessed the shooting. Dixon surrendered to police late this afternoon at police headquarters. A friend of the victim tells WKYT they are relieved he is in jail.
