Suspended officer receives support

It was a violent fight between two students, and after seeing some video, some people are saying a school resource officer went too far. Today, students are stepping forward saying that officer deserves to keep his job.

The video was shocking. Two Dunbar High School students being pulled apart after a fight, when the officer between them appears to take a swing at one of them.

That officer was suspended, but Tuesday morning, students wore shirts with his name on them to show their support. They say that clip doesn't tell the whole story.

"You watched a 10 second video out of a minute and a half. You can't see that he got his first by the kid," said Estefania Pena who wants to see the officer get his job back.

Students say having him on school property has always made them feel safe.

"He's a good guy, he comes to school, speaks to the kids. When people judge they only judge on the ten second video," said student Briana Bowling.

The student who was hit was suspended for ten days for his part in the fight. At last check, that resource officer is also suspended pending the outcome of the school's investigation.

The school board is currently putting together a review committee made up of outside law enforcement agencies to help with their investigation.

They expect it to be assembled sometime next week.
