LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Nick Ruthsatz scored 25 points, including six points in overtime, to lead Covington Catholic to a 59-51 win over Scott County in the finals of the Kentucky boys Sweet 16 state basketball tournament Sunday at Rupp Arena.
Covington Catholic, making its first state finals appearance since 1967 and the 9th Region winner, trailed by 12 in the second quarter and rallied from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and get the win.
Ruthsatz, the tournament's most valuable player, made 10 of 13 free throws and scored 20 points in the second half.
Both teams had a chance to win in regulation. Scott County's Trent Gilbert missed a jumper, while a half-court attempt by Covington Catholic's Bo Schuh bounced off the rim as time expired.
The Boys' Sweet 16 championship game will air on a delayed basis on Saturday on CW Lexington, at 10:00 pm.
