TRAFFIC UPDATE: I-64 now open after semi accident

Updated: Fri 12:05 PM, Mar 22, 2013

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – I-64 west is back open after an accident involving two tractor trailers in Woodford County.

The accident happened near the rest stop between mile markers 60 and 62 on I-64.

"The accident happened just before 6:00 AM," explains Lt. Daniel Clark with the Versailles Police Department, "when we got here we found two tractor trailers in the middle of the highway, one ran into the other."

Both drivers suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

"They refused treatment by the Woodford County EMS so if there were any injuries they were minor," explains Lt. Clark. "The highway was shut down for over an hour and traffic was diverted through the rest stop area between exit 60 and 62. It was the best situation for commuters since they were able to keep moving, obviously at a slower pace, but it didn't cause a serious backup. If there was no rest stop area for them to go around the situation would have been different."

Emergency officials also had to salt the roadways because of spilled anti freeze.

The road re-opened just after nine on Friday morning.
