Tampering may have led to Georgetown train crash

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT) - There's new information about a crash involving a train and a runaway rail car.

The crash happened Monday at the Main Street extended railroad crossing in Georgetown. Officials with Norfolk Southern Railway say they don't think the crash was an accident.

Robin Chapman with Norfolk Southern told WKYT on Tuesday the rail car was from AK Steel's yard in Georgetown. Chapman tells us the rail car should have been on a side track.

Norfolk Southern officials say they suspect it was tampered with, especially after a crew on a previous train reported seeing teenagers on these tracks. No one was hurt in the collision.

We asked about surveillance video, but Norfolk Southern officials say that will not be released. Norfolk Southern police are investigating with the help of Georgetown Police.
