WALTON, Ky. (AP) - A Boone County task force has scheduled four town hall meetings this month to help educate the community about the growing problem of heroin addiction.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department reports increases in the number of heroin-related arrests throughout Boone County from 2011 to 2012.

According to The Kentucky Enquirer, the most dramatic increase occurred in Walton, Ky., a portion of which is also located in Kenton County.

Overall, the city experienced a 700 percent increase in heroin-related arrests, from 3.9 per 10,000 residents in 2011 to 31.2 per 10,000 residents in 2012.

The Boone County Heroin Task Force was formed in June to partner with local businesses, government, law enforcement and other community stakeholders to raise awareness about the issues surrounding heroin and opioid painkiller abuse and addiction.
