LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Tea Party suffered two major primary losses in key primaries Tuesday.
In Mississippi, six term Republican incumbent Thad Cochran narrowly beat out Tea Party challenger Chris McDaniel to secure his party's nomination for the state's U.S. Senate race this November.
Cochran made a last-ditch effort to swing Democratic-leaning African American and union voters.
In Oklahoma, Representative James Lankford beat Tea Party favorite T.W. Shannon for an outright win for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Tom Coburn.
