As the Harlan County class of 2014 poured into the gymnasium ready to begin the next chapter of their lives, one seat remained ominously empty.

"He's probably one of the smartest kids I knew," said Harlan County Senior Jacob Dixon, "He was just hilarious. He'd do anything for anybody. He's take the shirt right off his back and give it to you."

18 year old Cody Fultz died Saturday evening in a single car accident.

Police say it happened on KY 421 on Pine Mountain.

Less than 24 hours after the accident, classmates placed flowers, balloons, and playing cards on Fultz's empty seat where he would have been during the graduation ceremony.

They say one thing Fultz will be remembered for is his generous spirit.

"He was so easy going," said Anthony Jenkins, "Somebody you could get attached to within the first ten minutes of talking to him."

Fultz's passenger, Bradley Lloyd, survived the crash with minor injuries.

"I still think i'm in shock from what happened to be honest," said Lloyd, "It all just happened in a flash...I really can't talk about it."

As his classmates move forward in their lives, they take with them the memories of their friend.

"And i'm happy that I got to meet him," said Jenkins, "And I got to know him before this happened. I just wish everybody could have met him."

Harlan County school psychologists say they'll be available for grief counseling during the next couple days.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been set.
