Updated: Sun 10:31 AM, Oct 28, 2012

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A 14-year-old is dead after being hit by a train while walking along the tracks.

We're told the accident happened along Sam Jones Road not far from where the teen lived.

The coroner was called to the scene off Highway 388 just after it happened around three o'clock this afternoon.

The coroner tells us 14-year-old Andrew Morris Byrd of Madison County is the victim who was killed after he was hit by a train while walking on the railroad tracks.

From what the preliminary investigation shows, the coroner says Byrd had his back to the train, which is why he believes it was accidental.

Officials with CSX railroad were on the scene but unable to comment about the accident.

We also talked to some of the victim's family who say they are devastated but did not want to talk on camera.

We are told Byrd was a student at B. Michael Caudill Middle School.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made for the 14-year-old.
