Teenager's national mission to stop diabetes

In Kentucky 400,000 are living with diabetes everyday.

This weekend hundreds will come together to walk to help stop the disease.

One of those taking part in the annual Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes is a young lady in Lexington who at the age of 17 is on a national mission to find a cure.

Logan Gregory is your typical teenager, working her summer job at a Lexington bridal salon to earn money for college next year.

There is one thing that sets her aside from most teens, she has diabetes.

Her days are filled with finger pricks five or six times a day depending on what she eats.

Diagnosed at the age of two, she's never known life without it.

Logan participated in her first diabetes walk, when she just big enough to be pulled in a wagon.even at an early age she was raising money and has been on a mission ever since.

"I've always been an advocate and fundraiser for the local step out walk chapter," said Logan Gregory.

After serving the last eleven years as the local Youth Ambassador for the annual Step Out Walk in Lexington, Logan earned a top honor this year, National Youth Advocate for the American Diabetes Association.

Her work with Kentucky lawmakers on bills and legislation concerning diabetes care and management and the fact she's raised $55,000 for the ADA helped her earn the title

Now, Logan is spreading her message to anyone who will listen.

"The key thing that I'm working on now as National Youth Ambassador is the safe at school program, basically if I could describe it in one word it would be education," said Gregory.

Logan wants school administrators to better understand diabetes and the importance of making sure students like herself have the supplies they need.

On Saturday Logan will take her message to the Step Out Walk at Keeneland.

"You see all the people and you realize I'm really not alone. That is something I think that is really important to every person with diabetes."

Logan knows the work and money she is raising now may help keep someone else from ever having to deal with diabetes.

The Step Out Walk is Saturday June 2nd at Keeneland.

The walk starts at 8:45.
