POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have made three arrests in a string of suspicious park fires.
There were three fires set at the city park in Stanton and one in Clay City last month.
The three teenagers were charged just before noon on Wednesday. Police say they arrested the teens at school Wednesday morning. The juveniles ages range from 14 to 15.
The Clay City police chief says all three boys are charged in relation to the two fires at the Stanton city park, the playground and a porta potty that was burned down.
Only two of the teens are charged in connection to the playground fire in Clay City. Those charges range from 2nd degree arson to burglary and criminal mischief.
"We got a statement from one of them saying they was there and told us about who committed the fires," said Chief Shannon Taylor.
The final estimates on the damage is $4,000 in Clay City and $45,000 in Stanton.
Chief Taylor says this was a joint effort between his office, Stanton police, and school resource officers.
"The kids would hear something, they would come to them and they helped us a lot," Taylor said.
Police say the teens are being held in the juvenile detention center in Breathitt County until their first court date.
