MT. STERLING, Ky. (WKYT) - Police in Lexington arrested a man for using a rigged dollar bill to get extra cash out of a coin machine.

A shop owner in Mt. Sterling has had the same thing happen to her numerous times. Now, she's hoping the arrest in Lexington will serve as a warning to similar thieves.

She can count at least four times when the man has walked into her laundromat in Mount Sterling and stolen coins.

"We make our living a quarter at a time, and then he comes in and cleans us out," explains Della Ferguson. Ferguson owns The Laundry Room in Mt. Sterling. When she saw WKYT's story about men in Lexington using a rigged dollar bill to steal cash from a coin machine, she thought the whole thing looked very familiar.

"We work hard to try to make a few dollars, and the people that come in here and spend their money, they work hard. And then he comes along and just takes it. He doesn't have to work for nothing, and goes on his merry way. It does make you angry, and it's money we need to pay the bills to replace washers and try to fix up things better for the public to use them."

Her laundromat is open 24 hours. Because of the recent thefts, she's thought of changing the way they do business.

"It was getting to the point that we were afraid to put any change in the changer. So that was gonna interfere with people coming doing their laundry at night."

Lexington police arrested Larry Pence for the same crime Ferguson fights at her laundromat. She's hoping that arrest sends a warning to similar criminals.
