Posted: Thu 8:26 PM, Nov 29, 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Salvation Army collection kettle has been stolen outside a grocery in Jefferson County where a bell ringer was on duty.

Salvation Army Lt. Boris Davis told WAVE-TV (http://bit.ly/V61oxg ) that a grocery manager and a customer chased the suspect, who fled in a car. They were able to get the license plate number.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. EST Wednesday outside a Kroger store near The Summit shopping center.

Davis says such thefts aren't that unusual and the organization is glad the bell ringer wasn't hurt. He says he knows from experience that the community's generosity will help make up for the loss.
