Three Lexington businesses robbed; police search for suspect

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police are searching for at least one man who attempted to rob two Lexington businesses before successfully robbing a gas station.

Friday night, police say a man walked into the Wong Wong Chinese Restaurant on Southland Drive. He passed the clerk a note that demanded money. He also showed a gun, but the clerk refused to comply and the suspect ran off.

Just a few hours later, police say possibly that same man went into the Sir Pizza on South Broadway and tried to rob it as well. But once again, the clerk did not hand over any cash and the suspect ran off.

Ten minutes later, police say the Shell station on Lane Allen was robbed. This time the thief was able to get away with some money. Police say he jumped the fence behind a McDonald's and took off in a car.

In all three of these incidents, police say the suspects had a similar description.

"One of the issues we have is the person is wearing a mask and the victims have given us different guesses on the race of the person," says Lt. Chris Van Brackel, Lexington police. "So that's one of the things that makes us unsure right now. Do we have the same person or is it just coincidence?"

The suspect is described as a man between 5'4" and 5'6" with an average build. He was wearing a brownish yellow Carhartt jacket and a mask over his face.

Police urge anyone who may have seen a suspect with that description leaving those locations on Friday night to give them a call.
