Three accused in string of trailer thefts

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Between October and December, deputies say someone stole six trailers from around the county.

"Some of them were flat utility trailers that you would haul your lawnmower, landscaping equipment on. Some were enclosed. They would have various power tools, hand tools, that different kind of equipment inside them," said Captain Scott Elder of the Mercer County Sheriff's Office.

One of those trailers belonged to Caldwell Tank and Tower in Harrodsburg. Deputies say it doesn't take long to pull off a theft like that.

"Very quick! Matter of a couple of minutes. The trailers just sitting next to a piece of property and they back up to it. Just a couple of minutes," Elder said.

Deputies said they began checking pawn shops and found some of the stolen items in Lexington, Richmond, and Frankfort.

"One of those teams actually located a stolen trailer at a pawn shop, which in turn gave us the name of the person that pawned that trailer," Elder said.

Deputies arrested John Gillespie, Wendy Cosby, and Albert Walsinger, charging them with theft by unlawful taking. Deputies say they've recovered all the stolen items.

Deputies said the total value of all the recovered items was more than $6,000.
