Three bodies found in car in flooded Whitley County creek

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley has confirmed that three bodies were found inside a car submerged in a Whitley County creek.

He says 39-year-old Shannon L. Kier, his wife, 29-year-old Susan Kay Kier, and their son, 2-year-old Lee Isaac Patrick Kier, all of Jacksboro, Tennessee, were pronounced dead around 10:35 Saturday morning.

Croley says the bodies were located inside a vehicle submerged in water in the flooded Jellico Creek, which flows into the Cumberland River. The creek is located just west of Williamsburg off Kentucky 92 on Newman Campbell Road.

Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell says deputies were searching for the family after a relative called police Friday night and reported them missing.

Their vehicle was found Saturday morning by a relative after the creek waters receded.
