LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Louisville police are now calling Wednesday’s quadruple shooting a domestic-related murder suicide. Police believe the shooting was premeditated.

The incident happened at the Lakeview Condos in the 1900 block of Gardiner Lane. Police say Gary Stewart,40, shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Jillian Wood, along with the couple's daughter, Shelby Stewart, 8.

Police say Wood also shot his mother twice before turning the gun on himself. His mother was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.

While police are not sure what sparked the violence, they say Gary Stewart, along with his ex, their two children, and his mother were all at his uncle’s condo Wednesday to go swimming. Police say the family spent the entire day together.

Police say Stewart brought a hand gun along and kept it hidden until just after four when police say he shot Wood and their 8-year-old daughter.

Police say that’s when Stewart’s mother tried to intervene. A struggle ensued and then Wood shot her. Meanwhile, Stewart’s uncle and his other child, a 12-year-old boy, ran from the condo begging people to call police.

Police say Stewart then killed himself.

“We don't know exactly what made the situation erupt. We do feel it was premeditated,” says Lt. Todd Kessinger with the Louisville police department. “They had been together all day long but we don't know what happened at that point that started everything.”
