UPDATE: Police continue to investigate what led to Leslie County triple shooting

ESSIE, Ky. (WKYT) - Update: 8-1-14

Police continue to investigate a shooting that injured three people Thursday evening.

“Yesterday, there were three people that were injured with gunshot wounds, two male subjects, one juvenile female,” said Sam Mullins, Leslie County sheriff’s deputy.

The people shot were Savannah Caldwell, Joshua Slusher, and Derrick White, Mullins said.

Slusher said he pushed Caldwell up a small flight of stairs to protect her from the gunfire.

The shots left a number of holes in one home.

Joyce Rogers lives down the street. The shooting surprised her.

“We’re all quiet,” she said. “It’s a quiet neighborhood. You never have anything like that going on.”

The men shot were taken to the hospital and released.

The incident came as a surprise to Derrick White.

“This is all out the blue,” said White. “I didn’t expect it at all.”

Police have suspects, said Mullins, but are not releasing names as the investigation continues.

Leslie County sheriff's deputies say two men and a 17-year-old girl were shot Thursday night around 7 p.m on Lower Bowen Creek Road near Essie.

The two men were taken to Hazard ARH. We've learned they have been released. The teenage girl was treated at the scene.

"It's all family. It doesn't happen in our neighborhood. I mean, you know, it's just not regular. It doesn't happen around here," said neighbor Joyce Rogers.

So far, no arrests have been made.
