Too early? Republicans audition for 2016 election

OXON HILL, Md. (AP) - It may seem early, but the activists who attended this week's conservative summit are already picking favorites in what could be a crowded Republican presidential primary in 2016.

The Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Washington offered potential candidates a high-profile stage to audition.

Conference officials will release its straw-poll winner on Saturday. More than a dozen high-profile Republicans appear on the ballot - even though none has made his or her 2016 intentions known.

This week, Republican leaders jockeyed to inject their own plans for the future of the GOP.

They included Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker plans to speak on Saturday.
