VICCO, Ky. (WKYT) - An eastern Kentucky city has become the smallest in the state to approve a gay rights ordinance.
The City Commission of Vicco, in Perry County, passed the ordinance Monday. It prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, or gender identity.
Despite a population of about 300 people, gay rights advocates say Vicco has emerged as a state leader on fairness issues.
"With this signal, Vicco is saying no one should be denied a job, a place to live, or be able to go out to a restaurant in their home town and be denied service. We're going to treat everyone the same," said Michael Aldridge, Executive Dir. of the ACLU of Kentucky.
Lexington, Louisville, and Covington are the only other Kentucky cities with anti-discrimination ordinances on the books.
