Tracking a blast of winter for Wednesday

Posted: Tue 2:13 PM, Feb 12, 2013

We have been talking about winter returning to the Bluegrass State, and that return starts Wednesday. A quick-moving storm system will bring wet snow and a mix of rain and snow our way.

The system develops today across Texas and rides northeastward toward North Carolina on Wednesday.

Temps are marginally cold enough for snow and the ground is warm, so accumulations might be limited. We will have to wait and see if it can snow hard enough to overcome the ground temps and just-above-freezing air temps.

Arctic air will arrive behind a cold front late Friday. A wave of low pressure might develop along this front and produce some snow around here. How much remains to be seen, but the cold air is impressive
